Built in Takla: The Story of Royal Professionals FC

Football clubs begin in different ways.

Some begin with investors. Some inherit generations of history. Others begin because someone looks at a community full of talented young people and sees an opportunity to build something that did not exist before.

Royal Professionals FC belongs to the latter group.

Where the Journey Began

Royal Professionals was established in 2017 in Takla, in Ghana’s Volta Region, by founder King Alberto Kluson.

From the beginning, the idea extended beyond forming another football team.

Kluson described the initiative as a way of bringing talented young people together through sport and creating positive opportunities for youth in Takla and surrounding communities. The ambition was to develop footballers, but also to use football as a force for discipline, direction and personal development.

That mission remains an important part of what Royal Professionals represents.

A Club From Takla, Open to Talent

Royal Professionals is proud of its roots.

Takla is one of the historic communities of Asogli State, alongside Ho, Kpenoe and Akoefe. It is a community with deep cultural roots, a long educational tradition and a strong record of self-help and community development.

But from an early stage, the vision for Royal Professionals extended beyond the boundaries of Takla.

When the club’s leadership spoke publicly about its development in 2022, the founder noted that players had come not only from the local community, but also from Accra and even neighbouring countries including Togo and Nigeria.

That idea remains central to the Royal Professionals identity:

rooted in our community, open to opportunity.

Building Something That Lasts

In April 2022, Royal Professionals formally unveiled an 11-member board as the registered club prepared for Division Three competition in the Ho Municipality.

Club leadership spoke about ambitions on the field, but also about building players’ capacities so they could remain productive and successful even after their playing careers.

It was a significant statement.

Success at Royal Professionals cannot be measured only by the score at full time.

A football club can help a young player learn discipline. It can create friendships and mentorship. It can expose talent to opportunities that might otherwise never arrive. It can teach young people how to work within a team and how to respond to success, disappointment and pressure.

Football is the platform.

Development is the purpose.

Entering the Wider Volta Football Family

Royal Professionals has also competed beyond local league football.

In 2023, Takla Royal Professionals appeared in the Afe Lotto Volta FA Cup, where the club was drawn against Volta FF FC in the competition’s Central Sector.

It represented another step into a football ecosystem that continues to develop around the Volta Region.

Today, the Volta Regional Football Association oversees a growing network of regional competitions, youth development initiatives, talent identification programs and pathways into Ghana’s national football structure.

For ambitious young footballers, that pathway matters.

And for Royal Professionals, it gives the club something tangible to pursue.

The Dream Is Bigger

Royal Professionals has never hidden its ambition.

As early as 2022, club management publicly identified the Ghana Premier League as a long-term goal.

It is a huge objective.

It will require better players, better coaching, stronger infrastructure, sustainable partnerships, disciplined management and years of work.

But every club that climbs the football pyramid has to begin somewhere.

For Royal Professionals, that beginning is Takla.

Every training session matters.

Every young player who improves matters.

Every match matters.

Every supporter matters.

And every organization that chooses to become part of the journey can help strengthen what comes next.

This Is Royal Professionals

We are a football club.

We are a development platform.

We are representatives of Takla and the Volta Region.

We believe talented young people deserve an opportunity to demonstrate what they can become.

And while the road ahead is long, our direction is clear.

Built in Takla. Developing talent. Pursuing something greater.

This is Royal Professionals FC.
